Since the 1920s, South Omaha's Latino community has hosted Mexican festivals, proudly celebrating over a century of tradition.

The Mexican community in Omaha, NE has been a vital part of Omaha life in South Omaha since the 1920s. For the past 100 years Mexicans and Latinos have been deeply involved in festivals, cultural, military, church and sports activities.

2020 marked the 100 year anniversary of the first Mexican festival and is recognized as the longest ethnic running festival in the history of Omaha. Cinco de Mayo Omaha now is Omaha's #1 largest local event with 250,000 attendees from six surrounding states that generates 7.5 million dollars back into the local economy.

As of 2023, approximately 38 million people of Mexican descent lived in the United States - the largest of any Hispanic group.
