Atilano (Lano) Oropeza

Lano Oropeza is known for being one of the most prominent figures in the development of Mexican sports in Omaha. Oropeza was the founder of Mexican Basketball Teams and tournaments in Omaha, NE, which became one of the largest in the country.

Accomplishments

October 1938

The Omaha Aztec Team was established in Omaha, NE at the Social Settlement, 31st and Q St. 

1947-1948

The Omaha Mexican Veterans Team was established.

1949-1950

The Omaha S.M.M. Team was established.

1951-1964

The Our Lady of Guadalupe Team (O.L.G.) was established. Later, the O.L.G. team changed their name to Mexican American Athletic Club (M.A.A.C.) for two years in 1963. 

1954

The 1st Annual Mexican Tournaments began, sponsored by the Our Lady of Guadalupe (O.L.G.) Team.  The 12th annual OLG Tournament was the first local Mexican event of any kind that was held in the Omaha Civic Auditorium.
